READ

Read the following passage aloud slowly.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. (James 1:22-25)

Pause for a few seconds

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it… they will be blessed in what they do.”

(repeat the above line 3 times, pausing between each reading)

DISCUSS

Use the following questions to guide group discussion

  1. Knowing that God ultimately does the work of transformation, what do you think your role is in your own Spiritual formation?
  2. Do you have any examples from your own life where training worked better than trying?
  3.  Are you sensing any invitations to try out new forms of prayer and spiritual practice?
  4. What are some next steps for you out of this experience?
