This fall, we continue to explore God’s invitation to be a hesed-shaped community. Hesed is the Hebrew word which can be translated as the tangible intersection of love, generosity, and commitment.

This week, Susan Shadid shared a compelling vision for the practice of spiritual friendships. These relationships are an important part of our formation in Christlikeness.

Our invitation as a community is to lean into the practice of spiritual friendships. If you already have a spiritual friend, wonderful! Or maybe you have a close friend, but you want to take an intentional step toward spiritual friendship. Or maybe you desire a spiritual friend but are unsure who that might be for you. Susan shared some helpful guidance. Consider this questions and practices prayerfully.

  1. What are you sensing God is inviting you to be or do? Ask Him what your next steps should be?
  2. Discern your spiritual desire and longing.
  3. Describe the kind of friendship you are looking for.
  4. Identify someone who might be a spiritual friend who you are already in a relationship with. What might you do to be more intentional and grow deeper together?
