It is with great joy we share the news that in 2021, The Practice will be stepping out and planting The Practice Church! Looking back on the six-and-a-half-year history of The Practice, I think I have known all along it would turn into a church one day.

On that first night in March of 2014, it was clear The Practice was something special. Aaron and the Practice team crafted a beautiful invitation to walk with Jesus, to get away with Him and learn the unforced rhythms of grace. They helped us wade deeply into the presence of Jesus with song, prayers, and scripture. We learned practices to help us open to the presence of God and become the kind of people who can put Jesus’s teaching into practice, and the Eucharist became a cherished gift to us all. At The Practice, we found our people. We found a home.

God has been with us as we leaned into practices like lament, breath prayer, and centering prayer. We learned from the great breadth of the Christian tradition, rearranged our lives to swim in the river of God’s Kingdom, and deepened our connection in community. And now God is inviting us into our next adventure.

What happens now?
To be honest, there is a lot of unknown. This won’t be an easy road. We will make mistakes and stumble on the way, but I am certain we will not be alone as we follow the way of Jesus together.

We are currently in a period we are referring to as a ‘pre-launch season.’ During this time, we will continue our rhythm of services on Sunday evening. (Willow has been gracious enough to allow us to continue using the chapel.) We’ll gather virtually to worship and open ourselves to be formed by Jesus to be like Jesus for the sake of the world. We’ll also begin a rhythm of gatherings to listen and discern together our path forward. Who is God inviting The Practice Church to be? What is God inviting The Practice Church to do, and how are we being invited to do it?

Our next meeting is at 7:30 CST on Tuesday, March 9th. You can register here.

Later in 2021, with hopes that it will be safe to gather in person, we will officially plant The Practice Church!

How you can be a part of The Practice Church
There are a few ways we would love for you to be a part of this pre-launch season:

  • Participate There are two ways to participate in this season. First, you can join our virtual gatherings. You can find the schedule on the about page. Second, you can join our times of listening and discerning the path forward. Your input and contributions will be incredibly helpful as we listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • Pray Will you intercede for our community? Please ask for wisdom and guidance. We desire the wisdom to let go and surrender to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And we long to abide in the unforced rhythms of grace we are inviting our neighbors to live.
  • Contribute. If you have experienced Christ’s presence in The Practice or have been impacted by what the Lord is doing here, would you consider how God might be inviting you to contribute? Is there some way you might serve or a skill, knowledge, or expertise you might share? We have a handful of specific needs as we plan for the future (listed at the bottom of this page). Or maybe God is inviting you to give financially. You can offer a tax deductible gift here

We’ll be sharing updates along the way. If you would like to stay up to date, please join our email list. This will be one of the best ways to receive the most up-to-date information.

Whether you are a part of our local community or you are connected from afar, we are so incredibly grateful for your presence in The Practice community. In this season, may you know the joy of God’s delight in you. May you abide in the presence of Christ, and may the Holy Spirit give you peace.

Grace and Peace,
Jason and The Practice Team

Specific Needs
We have a handful of specific needs as we plan to launch The Practice Church. We’ll keep this list updated over the next few months. If you have a desire to assist, would you email

Fundraising – We would love the help and expertise of someone who is experienced in fundraising. As we continue raising support, assistance in writing a fundraising prospectus and general fundraising guidance would be incredibly helpful. If this is an area of expertise for you, would you be willing to assist our fundraising efforts?

Real Estate – While we are not at a point of seriously looking for a location yet, we will need the help of someone who can guide us when we are ready. Today it would be helpful to gather information related to rental costs and potential locations.

Social Media – We would love someone in the community who is gifted with social media to help manage our accounts. Helping to improve our social media platform and increase our posting frequency with meaningful content.
