Sacrifice of Love
In the third movement of the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius invites us to join Christ in his Passion. We pray for the grace to move beyond ourselves to unite with Christ and share in his suffering. We grow in intimacy with Jesus as we suffer with him and are formed to more fully join with the redemptive work of God in the world.
As we participate in the third movement, “we accompany Jesus into the mystery of human suffering.” We are present to Jesus “and continue to have our hearts schooled about what compassion is all about. In this school of the heart, the cross becomes an extension of Jesus’ ministry and loving presence, a love that is with us to the very end.” (Kevin O’Brien, SJ, The Ignatian Adventure)
